What is it?
The Recycling Project is about more than just art—it’s about education, inspiration, and action. On one hand, it highlights past and present recycling and upcycling initiatives, both globally and locally, showing what’s possible and hopefully sparking new ideas. On the other hand, it’s about making upcycling so accessible that anyone/everyone can start right now.
My personal work focuses on a simple approach—shredding non-biodegradable waste and embedding it directly into art. The result? Creations that can be functional, abstract, polished, raw, or even completely unrecognizable as recycled materials. The best part? This isn’t some expensive, time-consuming process. With the right mindset, even a kid could eliminate their landfill waste tonight.

The Recycling Project isn’t just about creating art—it’s about reimagining waste, sparking conversation, and inspiring action in a way that’s welcoming, accessible, and free of judgment. This project is for everyone—whether you’re deeply passionate about sustainability or just starting to explore it.
Through this project, we aim to:
Create and sell upcycled art at Farmer's Markets and galleries, turning discarded materials into meaningful, interactive pieces.
Engage with the community in a way that sparks curiosity and creativity, not guilt or pressure. No judgment—just inspiration and conversation.
Write articles to share our mission, educate, and raise awareness in local media.
Expand our reach through social media, showcasing the work, building connections, and welcoming people in at any level of interest.
Collaborate with artists, activists, and innovators to grow this movement beyond Central Vancouver Island and onto a global stage.
Host workshops that are fun, educational, and empowering—helping people of all skill levels turn waste into something meaningful, no matter where they’re starting from.
This is about more than just recycling—it’s about changing the way we see waste, creativity, and possibility.
And most importantly: Everyone is welcome. No experience required. No pressure. Just an open invitation to explore, create, and make an impact together.
Why does it matter?
We live in a world overflowing with waste. Instead of seeing trash as an end, this project treats it as a beginning.
With environmental crises escalating and political landscapes shifting unpredictably, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But this is something tangible—something immediate, cheap, and accessible to everyone. No waiting on policies, no expensive solutions, not even any specific skills sets needed! Just everyday people taking real action right now.
Waste isn’t going away. If we don’t act, we won’t have a world left to save. The good news? Every single one of us has the power to reshape the future, one discarded scrap at a time.
